TECHNIQUES USED IN HAIR TRANSPLANTATION

There are several key techniques used in hair transplantations:

 

FUE Technique

The Follicular Unit Extraction, is the process of removing hair grafts from the donor area with a special instrument then implanting it on the bald regions. The FUE technique, has been applied since 2006 is the most advanced method. The benefits of this technique such as the easy and fast application of hair culture have made it more popular than FUT technique which is older, with this technique the grafts are taken with a special device from the donor area and implanted in channels around 0.7/0.8mm using special inserts, these grafts may contain cells of 2 or 3 packs, the number of transplant recipients can be 12,000 removed on the 5,000 unit and the root can be taken at the same time with no cutting or a skin band.

DHI Technique

The most popular method nowadays, Direct Hair Implantation, briefly known as the DHI technique, individually collected grafts are placed in the planting areas with a special transplant tool, the CHOI PEN, which varies between 0.6mm and 1mm thick. For other methods, the process is performed at two separated steps, unlike in DHI with both extracting and implanting at the same time. Hair must be cut at a certain length and the line should be drown, the grafts are carefully collected with no damage, after determining the optimal angle and directions for transplantation found slits are created in the area to implant in. No holes or cuts are required for this method unlike the previous ones, this process lasts longer comparing to them making it necessary for the patient and doctor to be more cautious, also the price is higher due to using multiple tools.

Stages of a hair transplant

Hair transplantation process goes through several stages:

First Stage:

The density of the donor area, the area to be implanted and the number of follicles to be picked out are determined. The front line is drawn.

Second Stage:

The patient undergoes the necessary tests and checkups, which are blood tests and some dermatology examinations.

Third Stage:

In this stage, the entire hair is shaved, in the case of hair transplantation was to be conducted with (FUE) technique. If the DHI technique or Robot technique was to be used, then only the donor area is shaved, in order to facilitate the process of picking the follicles out. The patient then is anesthetized with a local anesthesia.

Fourth Stage:

In this stage, the doctor picks out the follicles from the donor area via the Micro Motor, and they are placed in saline called Hypothermosol, in order to keep the follicles alive out of the body as long as possible.

Fifth Stage:

This is the stage of hair transplantation. If (FUE) technique is used, the channels are opened, then the extracted follicles are transplanted into those channels using medical forceps. If (DHI) technique is used, the follicles are placed in Choi pens, and with one click the channels are opened and the follicles are implanted at the same time.

After The Hair Transplant Operation

After the operation, there is a long process to pursuit and the final result will be shown after 12 months of the intervention. In order to get the aimed one, patients should be careful and cautious to the following recommendations to prevent any complications:

  1. Implanted grafts can be dislodged even in the simplest bumps and rubs. For this reason, it is necessary to pay attention when dressing,
  2. The first 15 days after the operation the scalp should not be exposed to direct sunlight. If the patient must get outdoors, they must protect their head, but must wear a hat that will not put pressure on the operated areas.
  3. Alcohol consumption and anticoagulants may cause bleeding in the operated area, in hair transplant section they must be avoided.
  4. After the procedure the patient must not use a pillow during sleep at least for 2 nights. It is advisable to climb in the half-stretch or seat, because the pressure of the pillow can move the location of grafts.
  5. For three weeks, hair related chemicals such as jelly, hair spray, conditioner, lotion and topical should not be used.
  6. In the first days, the scalp should be kept dry for a quick healing of wounds and shedding of the scabs.
  7. After the operation, it is necessary to carefully use the medications and lotions recommended by the doctor.
  8. During the first week, avoid extreme sports, excitement and stress. The patient may resume light workout after a week from the operation.
  9. Shaving the operated area with a shaver should be refrained for at least 6 months.
  10. The transplant area must be protected against any trauma and impact for 2 weeks.
  11. Operated area should not be washed for at least 2 days. The first wash should be done after 48 hours after the hair transplant by the expert doctor and their team.
  12. Using a hair dryer must be avoided for a couple of weeks.
  13. It is very important to keep the transplanted area clean and hygienic. Avoid excessive sweating and dust to prevent any infection.
  14. Use the lotion and shampoo recommended by your doctor for 3 weeks. After the fall of the crusts, you can use any shampoo.
  15. Partial or complete hair loss in the operated are after 4-6 weeks is normal. Hair from the implanted grafts will start to regrow after 3-5 months. After around 7 months regrow rate is supposed to reach around 70%. Achieving the complete desired look may take up to 12-15 months.
